Sunnyside up

Two eggs

Sourdough toast

Crisp, salty bacon

A dab of boysenberry jam

French roast

And the tang of a tall glass

Rainy Summer Day

July 5, 2009

Wet driveway

Pitter-patter on the trees

Thirsty grass sips

And sips some more

Wet world

Wet summer day

Strawberry Season

July 4, 2009

Strawberries grow ripe

Climb the vine

To the sun

Strawberry Season

Fresh and Red

Fresh and Red

Sweet and Juicy

Apple shines

March 10, 2009

Sun on red

Glisten

In evening light

Heavy on branch

Pick

In my hand, bite

Cinnamon Toast I Love You So

December 15, 2008

A slice in the morning

buttery, crunchy

cinnamon sticks

turns to goo

and crumbles to the touch

on my fingers

on the steering wheel

cinnamon toast

I love you so

Vanilla Nut Creme

Better Not, Should

Chance is All We Have

October 3, 2008

Rise to the challenge, and walk into the night
Walk into the darkness, and walk into the night
When morning beckons, you stand braver
For you have plied the darkness
Many a man do not face their fear
Afraid they are to face their darkness
To temper their soul
To live their darkness
They wish for that morning
Upon which you have woken
But they anguish in the night
Afraid to cross over
For the darkness is danger
But what danger is there?
To live life without dreams
To live life without mornings
To live trapped in the night
Send me through that darkness
And I will face its danger countless times
For I have not fear of what lurks in those shadows
I only fear the mediocrity of life unchallenged
Of standing in the shadows
Waiting to live
Waiting for my bell to ring
A bell that only tolls for me
Upon my dying day
And if you should stand at that gate
With your life you hesitate
Remember, many a man has died without ever living
Many a man has not ever had that chance to live
You have been handed the chance
Chance is all we have
To not take that chance
Is not to live
You can punch a card and hope for a day
You can wish for tomorrow
And yes, you are alive
However, a fire burns within you
To take a chance with a dream
And that is life
Why each goal burns bright.

Crisp fall nights; Crisp Apples Ripen

September 27, 2008

The nights get cool. Talk of warm cider, cinnamon and spice on cool evenings. The first apples grow fat on the trees. October is here. The World Series comes to a close. The days stay warm, and as the sun sets, I pick a bucketful to make a pie for the weekend. Fall is here.

First I Taste the Zest

August 6, 2008

First I taste the zest of the Navel rind
As I nibble my finger nail
And the fresh peeled orange
Once sweet, now sweeter

Sunset-Sun’s Burning Gift

August 3, 2008

Into darkness we sail
Kiss the good day good bye
With a radiant dance of crimson
The horizon alight
When the sun touches the sea
Like the tip of a match
To the heart inside me
Sail away into the night
Carry me into the morning
When you rise again
Sun depart with a burning gift
Your sunset
